About One Boutique Craft

Our goal is to showcase the beauty of these expertly beaded sandals made by a group of Maasai artisans, who are mostly women. Buying directly from these artisans provides a sustainable source of income, helps to build financial independence and strengthen communities.

The Maasai are semi-nomadic and pastoralist people in Africa (Kenya and Tanzania). They are known for their traditional distinctive red clothes, herding cattle, and beaded jewelry. Their main economy has been based on raising cattle.  

Now the Maasai are facing many challenges. The loss of land ownership and climate change have restricted the quality of available grazing land. This has led them to search for new economic strategies, including selling beadwork and other handmade crafts.
